    Get the iron hot
Take a wad of towel or rag (wadded enough to avoid to heat of the iron)
Put a glob of Vaseline on the rag and use hard circular motions to remove the marks.
I usually wear an oven mitt glove so nothing spits up my arm.

there is a product for that in the laundry section of the grocery store . I don’t remember the name, it stinks to high heavens , but does an excellent job.

I’ve found that the best way to remove stains from the sole of a steam iron is to turn the steam off and allow the iron to heat up to a high setting. Then sprinkle a layer of table salt onto a small portion of the ironing board, if that’s what you use, and firmly pressing the iron onto the board rubbing it back and forth and around in small circles. The salt will remove the stains and not scratch the lose of the iron.

I think you should be ok to use a scourer on it with a bit of detergent, just scrub it off. It should come off pretty easily without damaging your iron.
